Understanding Nonvolatile Storage in a Virtual Chassis
The EX 4200 switch stores JUNOS system files in internal flash memory. In a virtual chassis, both the master and the backup switch store the configuration information for all the member switches.
Nonvolatile Memory Features
The JUNOS for EX-series software optimizes the way the virtual chassis stores its configuration if a member switch or the virtual chassis is shut down improperly:
- If the master is not available, the backup switch takes on the role of the master and its internal flash memory takes over as the alternate location for maintaining nonvolatile configuration memory.
- If a member switch is taken offline for repair, the master stores the configuration of the member switch.
USB storage devices can be used for user data, such as copying log files from the switch to a personal computer.
