“…the T-1600 has some real core differentiators with the increased capacity capabilities. The 100 gigabits per slot is clearly a leading feature out in the marketplace… no one has been able to get this type of density all in that small of a form factor with the incredible reduction on power.”

Eve Griliches,
Program Manager within IDC’s Telecommunications Equipment group

The Service Aware NGN Core
The IP/MPLS core is the foundation of the next generation network (NGN). The NGN core must be capable of supporting the evolving multiplay services dominated by Video on Demand (VoD), IPTV, Voice over IP (VoIP) and other new bandwidth-intensive services that demand a high-quality user experience. Many service providers are planning for 80+% year-over-year backbone growth—primarily driven by video traffic demands, but also to support converged voice, business, and legacy services. For service providers to maximize their revenue potential, it is critical that they be able to deliver new services to market quickly with a positive user experience.

"It's been taken as classical wisdom that you have to do all the service-aware handling of traffic at the network's edge, but that's really just an excuse for lack of policy control that can scale to high traffic levels.... The best network solution is one that knows your traffic from end to end, at every point where it's touched by resources. That's the solution Juniper's providing."

Tom Nolle, President of CIMI Corporation, a Voorhees NJ consultancy.

The T1600 – the largest capacity single chassis NGN core router in the world!
The T1600 is the latest addition to Juniper Networks NGN core routing family, delivering service awareness and intelligence at scale. At 1.6Tbps, the highest scale single chassis NGN core router in the world. Based on the trusted, proven JUNOS operating system, the T1600 is ideally placed to enable service providers to grow to the next level of NGN scale when business demands dictate – future proof headroom when needed.

In the same half-rack footprint as the widely deployed T640 and with a power / cooling requirement that is some 30% less than comparative competitive platforms, the T1600 meets the most stringent needs for OPEX efficiency as well.

The upgrade from T640 – T1600 can be performed in <90 minutes with zero outage! Enabling live critical traffic to continue running whilst the platform is transformed from 640Gbps – 1.6Tbps. The same operating system, the same interface cards, no service outage. Is’nt that how all core routing upgrades should be?
