Channelized T3 Line Module |
The Channelized T3 LM (CT3-12-F0) provides cost-effective subscriber connections for DS1 and DS0 services over a channelized interface. This LM supports all major private line protocols, including Frame Relay, PPP, HDLC, multilink PPP and Frame Relay; and scales to support the aggregation of over 4,000 T1s in a single chassis, and over 12,000 T1s in a single rack.

Channelized OC3/STM-1 and OC12/STM-4 LM |
The Channelized OC3/STM-1 and OC12/STM-4 LM (COCX/STMX-F0) provides optical circuits to the access provider network in support of high density channelized services, which eliminates the need for costly conversion equipment (DACS) and simplifies cable management. The LM supports T3, T1, E1, and DS0 channelization, with support for Frame Relay, PPP, and HDLC.

Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet Line Modules |
The ERX hosts LMs (ERX-GEFE256M-MOD and ERX-GEFE-MOD) that customers can flexibly configure to support either Fast Ethernet connections to the access network or Gigabit Ethernet connections to the access or the core network, as required. Both LMs support line rate forwarding, and provide value-added services such as VLAN tagging (802.1Q).

Gigabit Ethernet Line Modules |
The ERX supports two Gigabit Ethernet LMs that offer high-speed Gigabit Ethernet connections to both the access network and the core network, as required. The ERX-GE-MOD supports a 2 port Gigabit Ethernet IOA, while the ERX-HDE-MOD flexibly supports the 2 port Gigabit Ethernet IOA and the 8 port high density Gigabit Ethernet IOA. Both LMs support line rate forwarding, and provide value-added services such as VLAN tagging (802.1Q).

The IPSec Service Modules (ERX-IPSEC-MOD and ERX-IPSECURE-MOD) encrypt and/or decrypt packets encoded with the IPSec protocol.
The Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) architecture provides a security suite for the IPv4 and IPv6 network layers. The suite provides such functionality as authentication of origin, data integrity, confidentiality, replay protection, and nonrepudiation of source. In addition to IPSec, the JUNOSe software also supports the Internet Key Exchange (IKE) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which defines mechanisms for key generation and exchange and manages security associations (SAs).
IPSec provides secure tunnels between two peers. To use IPSec security services, security associations are created between hosts. An SA is a simplex connection that allows two hosts to communicate with each other securely by means of IPSec. There are two types of SAs, manual and dynamic.
- Manual SAs require no negotiation; all values, including the keys, are static and specified in the configuration.
- With dynamic SAs, IKE creates dynamic security associations and negotiates SAs for IPSec. The IKE configuration defines the algorithms and keys used to establish the secure IKE connection with the peer security gateway. This connection is then used to dynamically agree upon keys and other data used by the dynamic IPSec SA. The IKE SA is negotiated first and is then used to protect the negotiations that determine the dynamic IPSec SAs.
