IP Services - Management
Management of the edge network is a key and critical function for a profitable, competitive service provider network. The E-series offers service providers both element-specific and network-wide management control. Element-specific control allows a service provider to manage a single ERX. Network-wide control allows the service provider to manage a set of E-series edge routers and other edge elements to create and apply global policies.
At its foundation, the E-series edge router supports standard-based methods of management access including SNMP and CLI. All Management Functional Areas (MFAs) are supported, including configuration, fault handling, monitoring, and statistics gathering. Multiple types of management access are supported to ensure that service providers can integrate the E-series into their operations support systems (OSS) environments. Value-added management services, such as Customer Network Management (CNM), are also supported. The strength of the ERX's management capabilities makes it easier to configure, deploy, and maintain new IP edge services.
E-series and the Service Deployment System
The Service Deployment System (SDX-300) is an integrated service management system that transforms the features of Juniper Networks' products into revenue-generating service opportunities. The SDX-300 includes service creation and subscriber management functionality. Designed to enable service providers to create and deploy new services efficiently for large numbers of subscribers, the SDX-300 is designed to work with a variety of transport technologies, such as DSL, cable, or wireless. Because SDX's service creation environment is not hard-coded to infrastructure equipment, new services can be added on according to the service provider's schedule, not the equipment vendor's timetable.
Fault Manager retrieves events from the diverse management platforms, devices, and network elements that comprise the service provider's Network Operations Center. It then associates them with services and customers, records the causes of any network problems and allows network administrators to view the events that triggered alarms.
