Network Computing Magazine Awards Peribit Networks “Editor’s Choice”
Peribit SM-500 Outscores Competitive Field in Independent WAN Accelerator test
Santa Clara, Calif. – December 6, 2004 - Peribit Networks, the leader in application delivery over the WAN, has received the prestigious “Editor’s Choice” award by Network Computing magazine, which recently tested four leading WAN accelerator products in its Real-World Labs ® in Syracuse, NY. The results were posted in an article entitled “ WAN Accelerators – Breaking the WAN Bottleneck,” which appeared in the November 25, 2004 issue.
Network Computing’s Associate Technology Editor Michael J. DeMaria, the article’s lead author, reported, “We tested four accelerators, which use caching, compression and QoS to speed data across your network. But only one earned our Editor's Choice award.” DeMaria added, “The Peribit SM-500 earned our Editor's Choice award for its superior management software and dramatic wins in several of our performance tests.” The article also concluded that “The SM-500 is a world-class WAN accelerator, with superior performance and a solid feature set.”
“Network Computing is one of the industry’s most respected publications, and the fact that we’ve received an Editor’s Choice award based on independent lab testing underscores our leadership position in the WAN optimization market,” said Mike Banic, vice president of corporate marketing at Peribit Networks.
The Peribit SM-500 and Sequence Mirror product family provides distributed enterprises with a scalable approach to improving application delivery over the WAN. The SM products interoperate with the Peribit Sequence Reducer product family and offer a unique sequence caching capability called Network Sequence Mirroring™ (NSM™). NSM dramatically speeds business applications that rely on the transfer of large amounts of data by eliminating repetition of data sequences – including Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, data replication and backup – even when separated by hundreds of gigabytes or weeks. NSM technology, in contrast to file caching, works on any IP-based application and recognizes repeated data sequences and eliminates them, even when a file has been modified. NSM technology uses on-board hard disks to provide hundreds of gigabytes of persistent sequence storage.
The SM devices exchange vital information such as topology, reachability, and path-performance metrics. They operate transparently to other network equipment, so an IT manger can place an SM device either in the flow of traffic between a LAN switch and WAN router, called In-Line Mode, or attach it to just one port of the switch or router, called Packet-Interception Mode.
