Sumitomo Corporation Solves Email Performance Problems with Peribit Networks

International Trading Company, Sumitomo Corporation Tackles Email Latency with a Network Optimisation Strategy

SANTA CLARA, CA – October 21, 2004 - Peribit Networks, the world leader in WAN application performance, today announced that Sumitomo Corporation, a worldwide integrated trading company based in Tokyo, has deployed Peribit’s application and network optimisation solution to boost WAN capacity across its Pacific operations and resolve email performance problems.

As Sumitomo Corporation opened more local offices, it experienced problems with the volume of email traveling over the network. In some cases attachments were taking several minutes to download, which was having a direct impact on company efficiency. Peribit’s SR-20 and SR-50 Sequencer Reducers TM were initially installed across 4 sites in Japan , Thailand , Malaysia and Indonesia . Following Peribit’s timely installation, email download times have been more than halved. The combination of reducing network latency with Packet Flow Acceleration (PFA) and increasing the available bandwidth with Molecular Sequence Reduction (MSR) proved a winning combination.

“As organisations consolidate servers and infrastructure to reduce operational expenses this increases the amount of traffic running over the network to remote users. Like many others, Sumitomo Corporation faced this problem with their centralised email system with the result that end users suffered, especially when exchanging file attachments. These delays have had a direct impact on the efficiency of remote users. Sumitomo Corporation saw the problem and chose to deploy Peribit to help them optimise application performance and improve the efficiency of their remote workers” commented Shane Buckley, President, International, Peribit. He added, "In this way the combined impact of consolidation and optimisation has a significant impact on operational expenses without any performance sacrifices."

Mr Masumi Yamamoto, Deputy General Manager of IT Planning & Promotion Dept. , Sumitomo Corporation said, “We were particularly impressed with the increase in performance enabled by deploying Peribit. After installation we halved the email download time, which was exactly what we required.” Mr Yamamoto continues, “The monitoring function within the software was also critical . It allowed us to track what the network was doing and adjust the performance where necessary, responding immediately to business needs.”

“Buying in more bandwidth is an expensive answer to the issue for application performance and often the investment doesn’t tackle the problem in hand. Peribit provides customers with a cost effective, comprehensive alternative in delivering network optimisation, responding to the limitations faced by the WAN environments today.”

Through their experience as an end user of the Peribit Solution, Sumitomo Corporation built such a high degree of satisfaction and confidence in Peribit that local Sumitomo subsidiaries, Sumi-Thai International Ltd.( Thailand), Sumitrade ( Russia) and Sumisho Electronics Co. Ltd.( Japan) became authorised resellers of Peribit and in Asia, Russia & CIS and Japan.
